artist’s statement
As an artist, I work in a variety of media and primarily in 2D. I am fascinated with exploring the concept of spaces, whether they be mental, emotional, or physical. Working in series allows me to explore each theme deeper.
There are certain elements that are consistently present throughout my practice: like translucency, layering, attention to light, the use of blur versus sharp… Also air, it is probably number one priority for me to create an image that breathes. That presence of air in an image ultimately speaks of a space, a space that invites you in.
Preparation of surfaces is a big part of my practice; it determines the mark making, the way materials and subsequent layers settle on the surface. So the work starts way before a first touch of pencil or paint appears on the white.
